Fresh from scooping Best Unsigned Band at the Exposed Awards, Sheffield chaos-merchants Femur were still basking in the glory when we collared lead singer Felix Renshaw for a quick chat about first wins, hometown love and local landmarks.
Ayup! Best Unsigned Band in Sheffield, eh? How does it feel to receive this award?
Ayup indeed! Yeah, we still can’t wrap our heads around it. Believe it or not, in our 10 years together this is the first award we’ve won, and to receive it as part of a celebration of Sheffield makes it all the more delicious.

Good night? Any other highlights to tell us about?
It was our first time attending the awards, so we had no idea what to expect, but we were blown away by the scale of it – what an event! It was great to see some familiar faces up on stage. Huge congratulations to Triple Point Brewery, Yellow Arch and Corp.
Why do you think the city’s gig-goers can’t get enough of Femur?
I hope it’s partly because we try to make Femur gigs a party space for everyone. Music is obviously a hugely important part of our lives, but we like to have fun with it and try not to take ourselves too seriously. Oh, and alongside a killer soundtrack, of course.
Who are you dedicating the award to?
This award has to be dedicated to the people who put us here in the first place. Anyone who’s ever gone to a gig, bought a T-shirt or just hung out for a pint and a chat afterwards – you’re the people who make gigs happen, and our hearts go out to you.
If Femur were a Sheffield landmark, what would you be?
Easy! Felix = the tree stump face in Meersbrook Park; Ed = Two Steps Fish and Chips; Danny = the tree in the road on Ryle Road; Gilly = Henderson’s Relish factory. We will not be expanding further on this.
