Since its closure last year, the future of the Leadmill has been a leading topic of conversation between music lovers in Sheffield.

Yesterday, Team Leadmill announced their latest fundraiser: pieces of the original dancefloor have been incorporated into a limited series of handcrafted guitars that were created by acclaimed guitar maker and repairman, James Lister.

One of these guitars was made truly one-of-a-kind after it was hand signed by a collection of Sheffield icons. Members of Arctic Monkeys, Def Leppard, and Pulp are just a few of the music legends who have come together to support this cause.

For over four decades the people of Sheffield partied, laughed and danced on the world famous dancefloor. With this guitar, the folks at the Leadmill want to restore a piece of our city’s heritage. In their words: “We lost the building through eviction but we didn’t lose what made it matter.”

Money raised will go directly towards the Leadmill Relocation Fund, which was recently set up to help secure a new home for the venue and permanently hang up the iconic neon sign in its rightful place.

For your chance to win a piece of Sheffield music history and help bring back the gigs, comedy and club nights, visit the fundraiser site here. Entries start from just £5 and the fundraiser will close at midnight on Tuesday 5 May.

The winner of this one-of-a-kind guitar will be picked at random and announced on Thursday 7 May at 7pm on The Leadmill’s social media pages, so keep your eyes peeled!
