Elephants

Herd of Sheffield

A whole herd of elephants is set to descend on Sheffield over the coming months. As part of a city wide scheme local artists have been asked to submit designs for each of the elephants that will form a citywide sculpture trail. After going on display each of the elephants will then be auctioned off to raise money for The Children’s Hospital Charity.

Laura Kennedy, artist coordinator at the Herd of Sheffield, said: “We want to see designs from every type of artist, both well-known and undiscovered, to help showcase the talent in Sheffield.”

Each artist can submit up to three elephant designs by the deadline of December 11. A shortlist will then be announced in February and artists will be chosen by the event sponsors in March. Between April and June, the white fibreglass elephant canvasses will be transformed into individual pieces of art, ready for display in July. Local schools have also been invited to contribute to the Little Herd which will be displayed alongside their bigger counterparts.
