Lights! Camera! Action!
Sheffield-bred filmmaking talent is receiving another boost in the form of FilmWorks, a brand new scheme for aspiring cinematographers.
Emerging producers and directors will be able to shine the lime light on their work and boost their careers through involvement in the scheme, which is designed to give them the skills, contacts and knowledge they need to get ahead in the world of filmmaking.
Sounds pretty great, right?! Sheffield is a city teeming with cinematic talent, and a city that already has a pretty strong reputation in the filmmaking world with the internationally acclaimed Doc/Fest. Now with the arrival of FilmWorks the crème de la crème of Sheffield’s filmmaking talent will get the attention they deserve, and the chance to put themselves on the map!
The scheme is the result of a collaboration between Watershed in Bristol, Broadway in Nottingham and Sheffield’s very own Showroom Workstation. Each venue gets its own dedicated industry professional who’s there to help shape and deliver the FilmWorks programme. Sheffield’s filmmaking mastermind and mentor will be Colin Pons, a man with over 25 years of experience in the industry and a list of award-winning feature films and shorts as long as your arm.
The man himself said ‘This is a fantastic initiative that maximises the reach of the workshops via the use of advanced communication technologies. This amplified reach increases the quality and scale of opportunities for participants. The securing of one of the workshop venues in Sheffield helps to further consolidate the city’s position as a leading regional media hub’. Quite right, Colin!
Applications for the scheme are open now, and you can fill yours in here any time before Monday 20 August.
