Music In The Gardens

21st Jun 2011

Starting from a minute charitable concept, Music in the Gardens is already in its 6th year and will be gracing the Botanical Gardens with more amazing concerts from Wednesday 29th to Saturday 2nd of July.

The event raises significant funds for various local charities and 50 percent of the proceeds made are shared equally between the four chosen charities, part of it being made from a bucket collection during the intervals – so bring your change! The remaining funds are then divided between a number of other charities nominated by the Rotary Clubs in Sheffield.

Acts set to embrace the Gardens this year include Sheffield University Big Band followed by the Keith Peters Big Band to start off the festivities on Wednesday. Next, Dizzy Club will support Paul Carrack on Thursday and Courtney Pine (pictured) will be supported by Omar Puente on Thursday. Saturday rounds off the event with a Classical Night, including Dodworth Colliery Band and the second half of the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra will feature “Last Night of the Proms” for the audience to join in the fun.

Last year the event raised £45,000 pounds and 17 charities benefited including Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, Shelterbox, Sheffield Kidney Research Foundation and Holidays for Disadvantaged Sheffield Children. The four main charities this year are Help for Heroes, Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, Shelterbox and the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity all with a main target of £60,000.
