“Citizens of Sheffield, Don’t Stand By”
12th Mar 2011
The 21st March sees the beginning of climate week in Britain, and Vintage starlet Switch Off Sally is hitting Sheffield with her hard message on climate change.
She is encouraging locals to do their bit to save energy, save the environment and save themselves a few pennies!
As part of the Sheffield is My Planet campaign, Switch Off Sally is urging people to draw on wartime traditions which saw every Briton saving energy in the face of danger overseas.
Whilst the threat is no longer the same, people do need to wake up to threat our careless attitudes towards energy is having on the environment.
If everyone in Sheffield quit using standby on their electrical appliances, we would save around 3000 tonnes of carbon dioxide and cut £8m from our annual energy bills - that’s enough to pay the energy bills of 8000 homes, 3.5% of the total houses in Sheffield!
The campaign will be challenging organisations and individuals to really look at their energy usage to provide proof of the power people can have when they all club together.
The campaign will be rounded off in true 1940’s fashion on 25th March with a free celebratory tea dance at Sheffield Town Hall.
So join the campaign and show the world the power a bunch of Sheffielders can have. The tea dance will start at 1:30pm on 25th March and is free to the public.
