Here Come The Girls
2nd Sep 2010
Girl power returns with a bang on October 1 – with the relaunch of Girls Girls Girls at Penelopes.
Showcasing Sheffield’s finest female talent, Girls Girls Girls will be joined by a selection of female DJs and performers from across the city.
The opening night will include Whilst Other Girls Did Their Makeup (best known for their regular nights at The Harley and Mixtape radio show on Sheffield Live) and Mel Low D who is rapidly making a name for herself with her regular Electro and Tech House sets at nights across South Yorkshire. Resident club duo Chicks With Decks complete the line-up.
Girls Girls Girls aims not to be just another club night, but a platform to promote the work of female artists from across the county. Club promoter, Heather Paterson (one half of Chicks With Decks), said:“The music industry is still perceived by many as a boys club, which means that the girls have to work twice as hard just to get noticed. Despite a few big names like Lisa Lashes and Annie Mac most music magazines and club flyers you pick up tend to only feature girls as decoration if at all – we want to help change that”.
The club will feature an all girl line-up but will have a mixed door policy so the boys are welcome too.
The Girls Girls Girls promoters already have their eyes on the future. Lisa White (the other half of Chicks With Decks) said: “We’re in talks with some of the larger more established nights across the country looking to do some collaborative nights and are also actively seeking out bands and other performers to join us to add to the night. We will be running regular nights and urge women who want to be involved to get in touch with us.”
If you’re interested in getting involved with Girls Girls Girls whether you dj, play in a band or do any other form of performance art, you can contact the girls at chickswithdecks@hotmail.co.uk or on their Myspace page www.myspace.com/sheffieldgirls
