Sons of Sheffield

One of Sheffield’s most talked about new bands is set for a unique concert at the city’s Montgomery Theatre.

Dead Sons, which features two former members of Milburn, made their live debut at DQ during the Tramlines Festival and return to action for what they’re describing as their ‘first proper Sheffield gig’ on September 24 at the city centre venue.

The theatre, which holds more than 400 is an ambitious location for the band, but as Matt Byrne, who plays percussion, harmonica, guitars and violin explains, it’s all part of the master plan.

“No disrespect to them but we didn’t want to just play all the usual venues in town – we want to be a bit different,” he told Exposed. “The buzz at the first gig was great – and this venue really suits the band. It’s got that kind of 70s distressed look and although it’s a little rundown it has lots of charm.”

While fans of Milburn will recognise the influence of the former members, they may also be surprised at the more dark and sinister sound of the Dead Sons. One that is perfect for the venue.

“This will be a bit of a showcase for us,” adds Matt. “We’ve been locked in the studio for 8 months and there should be lots of interest in the gig.”

Tickets for the show are £5 from www.ticketseller.comand include a copy of their white label EP which is also available online.
