Katatonia - Dead End Kings
7th Aug 2012
The Basics
Swedish metal merchants Katatonia formed in 1991 – meaning, after 20 odd years, they’ve gotten pretty good. With the release of their ninth album, and an upcoming European tour, it doesn’t look like they’re going away any time soon.
The Verdict
As a new listener to this band, I was pleasantly surprised with their clean cut, well-orchestrated sound. Katatonia are definitely not one of those bands that ‘used to be good’, but instead show a high level of maturity - creating a great new album. Distorted riffs collide with melodic musings and soft, almost hypnotic vocals, which put a sugar coating on the death metal aspect of the band. Well worth lending your ear to. JM 6.5/10
