Pumpin’ On Mi Stereo: Mongrels – Attack the Monolith

Our tip for some summer listening this month comes courtesy of Kid Acne and Benjamin Hatton’s hip-hop project, Mongrels.

Mongrels – Attack the Monolith

After finding a number of demos and half-finished tracks from their early recording days, old muckers Kid Acne and DJ Benjamin Hatton revived their hip-hop project Mongrels with the release of this debut album. Joined by New Kingdom rapper Sebash the result is a record teeming with witty rhymes, nostalgia-soaked drum breaks and Acne’s trademark talent of combining New York pysch-rap with an unmistakeably British vibe. The twelve tracks take the listener on a journey through the artist’s consciousness, with the inspirations and characters featured in his artwork referenced throughout. The perfect accompaniment to a chilled summer BBQ; if you don’t already know about Mongrels, then get to know.
