Gilles Peterson @ Foundry
World music connoisseur Gilles Peterson returns to the steel city and brings an eclectic blend of tunes with him.
Henry Wu kicks off just before Gilles with some looped vocals, swirling rhythms and diverse beats from all genres. Wu keeps the energy high as good vibes start to fill the room.
Next up it’s the main man himself. Following on from his massive sold out set at Tramlines last year, Gilles returns to adoration and a packed out Foundry, ready to bust some
moves.
Gilles wastes no time and drops some tropical beats to get the room moving. Foundry if filled with a fantastic atmosphere as Gilles has everybody in the palm of his hand.
Gilles gives some extremely diverse tunes a spin as we are taken on a global journey through multiple genres, countries and languages. Not many DJs can spin some minimalist jazz over Latin groves, before dropping some old school dub and African rhythms however, Gilles does it with ease. The room keeps buzzing ’til the very end as Gilles relentlessly drops funky rhythm after funky rhythm.
Gilles brings the beats and wonderful vibes that spared throughout Foundry like a groovy plague. As tonight proves, he’s a true man of his craft and now in his 30th year behind the decks, he is only getting better.
