The Wick At Both Ends
You’ll be hard pressed to find anyone in Sheff who’s got a bad word to say about The Wick.
After launching last year, they’ve become synonimous with chilled out partying, consistently thinking outside the box. Now, they’ve added food to the already impressive package courtesy of head chef Jim.
The Food
We’re here ahead of the new menu’s official launch to sample a cross selection of culinary delights.
Kicking things off is the Stilton, Poached Pear & Roasted Cashew sandwich (easily shareable between three people) and delicious white wine sauteed mushrooms on granary toast.
It’s impressive fare, rustic and homely but given a dash of modern day pizazz - never more so than on our next dish of slow roasted breast of lamb. Stuffed with cherry risotto in a red wine gravy with roasted new potatoes and minted green beans. Eight hours go into making this one... the final result shows it’s worth the effort.
Haggis, neeps and tatties (with garlic mash), Airtight Ale battered fish and hand-cut triple cooked chips, and tomato, basil and feta parcels complete the feast.
It’s worth noting they also do Sunday lunches as well now. Cracking stuff... and the fact that we were treated to a bourbon master class while we ate from renowned cocktail maker and Wick manager Frankie Rushe didn’t hurt either.
The Verdict
As a bar, The Wick has got it spot on. It’s relaxed, but forward thinking, alternative, yet comforting. The new menu reflects this and offers fab value for money. By adding food to the bill they’ve simply made something great even better. Ace.
