The West End
Since relaunching back in November after a complete overhaul, The West End has settled effortlessly into Sheffield’s social scene - becoming both a chilled gathering point and top party destination. It’s the perfect balance between old and new. The fact that they happen to do some cracking food hasn’t done them any harm either.
The Food
Whilst there’s a good selection of sandwiches and, as they put it, ‘bits and bobs’, hearty fare is the real name of the game here. The fishfinger sarnie tempts one of our clan which arrives in a Yorkshire breadcake with fat chips and lemon mayo. Cracking value at just £3.10.
The rest of our party are after something a little more substantial so it’s onto the San Miguel battered fish and chips (served in newspaper, of course), the ‘Bit o’ Posh’ (pork medallions sauteed with apples from co-owner Alex’s mum’s orchard and red onions with colcannon mash) and the ‘Pie of the Week’ (on this occasion it’s chicken and, my word, they don’t half pack a lot of it into that pastry case).
Easy to see why people have been raving about both them and the Sunday roasts (12pm-4pm). We made a note in our diaries to get involved sharpish.
The Verdict
The food cannot be faulted on any level. Quality produce, expertly prepared, generous portions and at prices that won’t have you wincing. Once you’re in The West End, you won’t want to leave. We didn’t.
