Taste
Situated right next to Hunters Bar roundabout, on the golden mile that is Ecclesall Road, you’d be forgiven for thinking there wasn’t a restaurant above this quaint continental looking café. Fact is, they have bistro nights every Friday and Saturday here from 6-11pm serving a wide selection of delicious Italian tapas. You can even take your own drinks.
Upon entering we received a warm welcome from our waitress Vicky who led us upstairs to an intimate and inviting restaurant area.
The Food
We went for six Tapas – which included Bruschette Miste (Grilled Courgette with Basil Pesto, Marinated Cheese and Marinated tomatoes on bruschetta) which was a wonderful marriage of flavours and the intriguing Porchetta – Roman style roast belly pork with fennel seed, rosemary, garlic and fresh chilli that really has to be tasted to be believed. My favourite, however, was the Arosticini. Grilled lamb skewers served with ciabatta and chilli oil that were heavenly. I’d go back simply for these alone.
For dessert we opted for the delightful and beautifully presented ‘Pentaquatris’ which was a selection of five desserts including a large Baileys truffle, carrot cake, Tiramisu and more - covered in splashings of chocolate and served with a pot of cream. Absolutely delicious (particularly the truffle).
The Verdict
Taste is a terrific little destination. Particularly for couples given the intimacy and the warm atmosphere it offers. The tapas menu also offers fantastic value for money (the most expensive dish was £6.95) and the food is full of authenticity. Highly recommended.
