Swanky Frank’s
The Place
Sheffield’s newest restaurant (and I mean newest too as it’s a new build) was actually built by one of the partners, Paul Brady, who’s also an architect.
Based in Woodseats, it’s a breath of fresh air for the area, offering a taste of the ‘American dream’ – think burgers, ribs and steaks. Yee, and indeed, haa.
The Food
We kick off proceedings with the loaded potato skins. A tasty starter and they don’t skimp with the cheese.
These are swiftly followed by mains of vegetarian fajitas and the Brooklyn Chilli Burger. The former is a combo of fresh peppers, onions, courgettes and aubergines sautéed in Cajun spices which arrives on a sizzling skillet accompanied by warm flour tortillas. Even for a meat-eater like myself, this was a damn fine dish.
The latter, meanwhile, was simply one of the best burgers I’ve ever had the pleasure of devouring. A gourmet offering smothered in prime chilli minced beef and topped with chorizo – with perfect fries on the side.
Real shakes (none of that runny rubbish) accompanied our meal before we rounded things off with the chocolate Toblerone cheesecake. Sex on a plate.
The Verdict
You’ve got to take your Stetson off to the fellas behind Swanky Frank’s. It’s a lovely looking place, cool and contemporary, and this is echoed in the food. You’ll leave with a full belly and a smile on your face.
Well worth the trek out Woodseats way. Saddle up, varmints.
