Otto’s Restaurant
A visit to Otto’s is almost like being invited into someone’s home for tea. It’s a family owned business based in a large detached house on Sharrow Vale Rd, The establishment itself offers dining on two floors and homely features such as fireplaces and pianos to create a genuinely welcoming vibe.
The Food
As we’re seated after a lovely greeting we find top grade olives waiting for us on our table.
I start with the spicy Moroccan meatballs served with coriander and egg. For me, it was the ideal starter. Tender and not overpowering. My partner plumped for the Moroccan sardines, stuffed with coriander, lemon and garlic and served with fresh salad. Again, the flavours were subtle, yet complimented each other incredibly well.
Onto the mains. Moroccan lemon chicken, traditional tagine with olives and preserved lemon was my dish of choice. Tender chicken, presented beautifully with couscous. The olives and lemon married beautifully to create an unusual tangy, but very tasty dish.
For my other half, it was the Lamb tagine. Cooked to perfection on the bone and served in a Moroccan tagine I can genuinely say neither of us had ever tasted lamb this good. The prunes, apricots and sesame seeds created an incredible sauce.
The Verdict
If a cosy, authentic meal within the Moroccan and French genres appeals to you, you’ll be hard pressed to do better in Sheffield. I’d even go so far to say the service was perfect - attentive without being over the top. Quality.
