We’ve got a lot of time for Olive round these parts.
Owner Jake Parish has really took the bull by the horns and created a venue offering cracking cocktails, regular live acoustic music, tip-top tucker and, of course, the best olives in town.
It almost feels like a well kept secret that you don’t want to let out, but feel guilty for keeping in. Can’t really win. Regardless, it’s in a prime position in the Devonshire Quarter - and if you bypass it, you’re a numpty.
The Food
Whilst having popped in many a time for a beverage, it’s the first time me and mine are in for a bite to eat. They cater for all, in general (gluten free, vegetarian), and you’ll have no complaints with their bar menu.
We’re here for the full treatment though, so it’s upstairs to the lovely restaurant area, and seperate menu which is served 7pm-10pm.
Smoked Mackerel and Horseradish on Toast and Confit of Duck with Balsamic Reduction provide a wonderful start to proceedings. Expertly prepared and wonderfully presented.
For the mains, succulent Derbyshire Lamb with creamy mash and a raspberry mint jus both tempts and delivers in spades, along with Roasted Parma Chicken in an olive and tomato sauce - which is, frankly, to die for. They use locally sourced, fresh ingredients, as a rule. To coin a phrase, you can taste the difference.
The Verdict
Whether it’s a quick bite to eat on a Saturday afternoon, a cheeky cocktail, or an evening out with the other half - you won’t be left wanting. Thumbs up

Starter: Pea and baked ham soup
Main: Baked Sa Bass. Simply seasoned and chaperoned by pesto new potatoes, roasted mix peppers, and capers.
