Napoleon's
Napoleons has always been a fab destination for city folks hankering after a night out with a bit of a difference. Now, after a massive refurb, they’ve taken it to the next level.
Re-launching back in June after spending the best part of £1.5m on the place, their bar and restaurant has been causing something of a stir - offering high-end cuisine in luxurious surroundings at competitive prices.
One such deal is their ‘Dine In Style’ menu – a cracking combo which includes a drink upon arrival, 3 course meal, and a £5 gaming chip. At just £20 during the week, and £25 at the weekend, it doesn’t take a genius to see why it’s become such a popular draw.
The Food
We receive a friendly welcome as standard and are escorted to our seats where our free gaming chip awaits in a presentation pouch. Our free drinks (we opt for the house white wine) arrive quickly and we’re left to peruse an ever changing menu which offers something to tempt most palettes.
On this occasion, appetisers such as warm Yorkshire pudding with Henderson’s & onion compote and cheese & anchovy straws are available for a mere £1 each (£4 for a platter of them all) but we opt straight for the starters which come as part of the package.
Confit of duck leg with aniseed salad and a spring onion glaze and the Thai chicken broth with soy sauce are our dishes of choice. The former was an tender delight which we could quite happily have eaten three of, whilst the latter delivered a perfect balance of flavours.
For the main, we go for the roast belly of pork with apricots and sage and roast balsamic pear (the pork was perfectly prepared and worked brilliantly with the rest of the elements), and the fillet steak from the grill. I choose my words carefully here as it’s a big statement – but the steak was probably the best I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a fair few. Fantastic.
A selection of cheeses along with a moreish peach tarte tatin with vanilla pod ice cream round off a feast that you would happily pay double for.
The Verdict
Naps is onto an absolute winner here. After our meal, we were even given a personal tutorial in the fine art of roulette. It’s these little touches that make all the difference and you’ll be hard pressed to find a better value menu in the city.
I was no stranger to the place before, now they might as well keep a pair of slippers there for me. Ace.
The Dine In Style menu is served daily from 6pm-10pm.
