Maharaj
This place has really sprung to life over the past year or so and is now something of a vibrant strip. One of the latest additions is Maharaj which has caught the eye of many a passer by thanks to their range of asian style pizzas.
Kooky? Indeed - but it’s just one of the reasons the spacious and smart establishment has thrived since it launched this year. It’s the brainchild of brothers Kas and Naz, whose father has 32 years experience in the restaurant game.
The Food
The Poppadums represent excellent value for money at just 45p each and are swiftly followed by a smorgasboard of delights. They really look after you here and we sample the mixed kebab, stunning Cod Pakoras, Chicken Tikka, Sheek kebab and Bhajis.
We shouldn’t have room for a main, yet we still launch into them in the form of Chicken Saag (tasty and tender), and a dish which is unique to Maharaj - the Arabian Lamb, cooked expertly with mushrooms and garden mint in a cream sauce.
It’s a dish that even non-curry fans would enjoy. Acompanying these are both mushroom and pilau rice along with the perfect garlic naan bread.
The Verdict
Folks in Commonside are rapidly in danger of becoming spoilt. Great boozer, off licence, shops, eateries and takeaways - you’re really left wanting for nowt. With the addition of Maharaj, it’s simpy put a cherry on the cake. Eat in, takeaway, or have it delivered... you won’t be dissapointed.
