Kitos

Head out Woodseats way and you’ll find the intimate little number that is Kitos. Chock full of rustic Italian charm, it holds an enviable position for an eatery – sandwiched as it is between a butcher’s and a fishmonger’s. There’s no excuse for not having the freshest of produce here.

Inside awaits a warm welcome, chilled atmosphere, and ever changing specials board. You’re also free to take your own drinks along. So we did.

 

The Food

After dealing with the most important part of the evening (that being the wine pouring) complimentary olives arrive as we peruse the menu. As you’d expect, it’s a fine offering of authentic Italian cuisine.

To start, I plump for the Capo Sante (Queen Scallops in a cream sauce topped with mashed potato and cheese) which is served in an oyster shell. The taste matched the lovely presentation.

My partner opted for the tongue-twisting Pizza Con Aglio Formaggio (Pizza style garlic bread with tomato and cheese) which more than appeased her cheese fetish.

Mains of Crespelle Con Pollo E Funghi (Pancake filled with chicken, mushrooms and cheese) and Swordfish Kitos (Swordfish cooked with Mussels and King Prawns, tossed in garlic, white wine and Thyme with a hint of cream and tomato Napoli sauce) follow. The former, again, is a cheese lover’s dream - whilst the latter is a hearty affair, packed with taste and served with a choice of veg, rice or salad.

The portions are generous – meaning we only have room left to share their home-made Tiramisu. We’re glad we did. You will be too.

 

The Verdict

Kitos authenticity and cosiness are the secrets to its success. Once you’re seated, you feel somewhat at home – which goes to show why it’s as popular with families as it is with couples. Italians like to live ‘La Dolce Vita’ which translates as ‘The Sweet Life’. At Kitos, they’ve got it nailed.
