Henry's Café Bar
Situated right in the thick of town life on Cambridge St, Henry’s is something of a sleeping giant.
The place used to be rammed back in the day (let’s say the early 90s) but then slowly went into decline, turning into the failed City Bar before going back to its roots today courtesy of the Simmonite clan.
Mark and Adam have put blood, sweat and tears into turning Henry’s around.
The Food
The menu reflects the management’s love for Sheffield, with the likes of Whirlow all Farm ham/bacon/black pudding, steaks from locally reared cattle, and Henderson’s Relish infused dishes.
We opt for the Henry’s Chicken Stack (free range chicken breast, bacon, Hendo’s sauce, mature cheddar and grilled field mushroom). The chicken burger and, on Mark’s recommendation, the Henry’s club stack sandwich.
The chicken stack is a delightful marriage of texture and taste, the chicken burger (which is served in pitta bread) has garlic mayo and sweet chilli sauce to take it to the next level, whilst the stack sandwich is, frankly, a sight to behold.
Chicken breast, bacon, prawn, lettuce, beef tomato, mayo and guacamole stacked three storeys high. It’s special. All dishes came with hand cut, seasoned, proper chips.
The Verdict
Henry’s has all the elements to once again be a main player in the city. It’s a huge place, neatly decked out, ace range of drinks and the food is as good as pub grub gets. With plans for a new beer garden and dedicated live music room in the offing, it’s one to keep an eye on.
Brand new beer garden opened in August 2010.
