El Toro
It’s the last place on the right as you are heading out of Broomhill towards town. A bright and bustling Spanish canteen and Tapas bar right on the corner.
A really good sign as we arrive is it’s busy on Tuesday night! A rare and pleasing sight for Sheffield during a recession.
Amy, our waitress, sits us down and gets us some wine. I went for a full bodied Rioja and my partner opts for a Spanish Sauvignon.
El Toro is run by Brothers Trevor and Dave Neville offering authentic Tapas and Racion (big plates).
The Food
As we are just back from Spain, I jumped at the chance to come down and sample El Toro’s tapas menu. And we weren’t disappointed with the selection, choosing Lobster Paella, Patatas alioli, tortilla Espanola, tomato meatballs, Seabass and roasted.
All generous portions, fresh, tasty and well presented. It’s easy to mess tapas about and to be honest I have had a couple of bad experiences with chewy fish and boiled to death veg. But this was the real deal with the highlight for me being the lobster paella and the spicy meatballs lots of flavour and very Moorish!
The chef's tip of smelling the rosemary (that was brought over with the dish), before you tasted the Paella worked a treat and was beautiful! I was completely stuffed and nearly didn’t have room for a bottle of ice cold Estrella…nearly.
The Verdict
The perfect venue for parties or something more intimate.
Thursday and Friday opening times from 5:30 are perfect for taking the kids straight after work. Pop in and grab a bite I bet you wont be disappointed.
