Champs Sports bar and restaurant

champ

One of the first American Sports Bar of its kind in the UK, Champs has long been one of the most popular draws on Eccy Rd.

Sport, as you’d expect, plays a massive part here (there’s 40 flat screen TVs, a giant outside TV and 2 Sky boxes with around 20 dedicated sports channels, for starters) – but they also offer a wide range of cracking food as well.

Be it bar nibbles, through to their signature steaks, you won’t be left wanting.

The Food

The festive season is upon us and Champs have embraced it by adding some Christmassy dishes to the menu.

We decide to start with 5 pigs in blankets with cranberry ketchup. A tasty treat which whet the palette nicely and made me wonder why we don’t eat them all year round.

Being a ‘Contender with Cheese’ kinda girl I was also tempted by the Christmas Burger – a feast of a burger with bacon, stuffing and cranberry ketchup. However, it was lunch, and I couldn’t face the huge burger portion.

I opted instead for another new (if a little less festive) dish – the Seafeast Pie. I stuck my fork in and felt like Tom Thumb as I pulled out a huge prawn.

It’s always a good sign when that happens. The pie was stuffed with salmon, smoked haddock and prawns. Meaty, and not full of potato, it also had wholegrain mustard in the sauce and was delicious.

My other half ordered the blackened chicken sandwich, marinated with Cajun spice with mayo and salsa. He eventually let me get my chops around it and it was a lovely spicy offering.

The Verdict

Champs is packed with atmosphere – and you don’t have to be a sports buff to appreciate it. It’s a fab place to meet for a beer prior to an evening out but, next time you’re in, do yourself a favour and try one of their great value meals as well.
